Casa HC
Turning challenges into meaningful places
Area: 450 m²
Location: Guanacaste, Costa Rica
Scope: Full design + construction oversight
Between the mountain and the sea, Casa HC unfolds as a sanctuary for family connection. Spaces flow between the intimate and the shared: from quiet moments of rest overlooking the landscape to evenings gathered around the fire under the stars. The house breathes with Guanacaste’s breeze, crafted by local hands with materials from the land, as a luminous tribute to its natural surroundings.
-
The project required creating a coastal home that could support both shared living and individual needs, including accessibility considerations for a family member.
Beyond the emotional brief, the site presented challenges in climate, exposure, and spatial organization—demanding a careful balance between openness, privacy, and long-term functionality.
-
The design was developed through a series of spatial decisions that prioritize proximity and flow.
Private areas were positioned to maintain visual connection without sacrificing retreat, while social spaces extend outward—integrating terraces, the pool, and shaded outdoor zones into a continuous living environment.
Materiality and construction were approached locally, working with regional craftsmanship and passive strategies for light, ventilation, and durability in a coastal context.
-
The result is a home that operates seamlessly across scales—from intimate daily routines to larger gatherings—while responding to the specific needs of the family.
At the same time, the project supports local production and long-term environmental performance, demonstrating how design decisions can extend beyond the house itself.
